Our primary goal is to give a forever home to ill, shy, special needs, old, or otherwise conventionally unadoptable rats in Portland, and the Pacific Northwest in general.  On occasion we do take in a rat (or litter) that will later be rehomed, but it is rare.

As long as we have room we will accept rats that meet our criteria. We will also accept mice as space allows. We may also accept other small animals depending on the situation and space. It never hurts to ask.

Other services we hope to be offering include, educational and therapeutic visits, referral for products and services, helping to place animals, answering basic care questions, helping to screen potential adopters, problem solving with the goal of allowing you to keep your pets,  product reviews, etc.

Surrendering An Animal

We primarly accept animals that need immediate veterinary care, animals that require long term care due to special needs, rats over the age of two, mice over the age of one, and in some cases shy/skiddish animals. If you have need to place such an animal please email us. Our address can be found in the Contacts page.

We expect full disclosure about every aspect of your pet's life. In your email please include: reason for surrender, sex, age, any health problems, diet, housing, and personality information. This helps us determine whether or not we can take in your animal at this time, whether or not we can help solve problems that may allow you to keep your animal, and whether or not your animal could be better adopted into a regular pet home. Please be honest! We are not here to judge you, we are here to help your animal companions.

We do not reguire that animals come with cages and supplies, though it is appreciated. Most supplies will be used and cages will be used or sold to support our efforts.

Education

We are hoping to offer community education in the near future. We will be participating in the Delta Pet Partner training course with some of our animals very soon. In the meantime we may be willing to make classroom trips with or without animals for the purpose of education. Once we have received certification with some of our animals we will be willing to visit nursing homes, special education centers, classrooms, etc. We can also provide information and resource lists for rodents and their care. Please contact us with any questions or visit inquiries!
